JOSE EUSEBIO ORTIZ
(June 12, 1973 - July 30, 1995)

Jose was born June 12, 1973 in Mexico. His family later moved to Texas where he attended the Spearman, Tx. ISD schools, and later graduated from the class of 1991. Wanting to remain close to family and friends, he chose to attend a local university, West Texas A&M Uneversity, where he majored in Mechanical/Design Egineering. Jose had aspiration of becoming a mechanical engineer and was classified a senior before his death.

Jose Ortiz, "Conejo", as he was better known to Theta Chapter, appeared somewhat reserved or shy at first, but as time passed, we learned how out-going and out-spoken he really was. His zeal to implement new ideas was a trait we all admired. Jose served as Social Chairman, and always strived to carry out his duties and was flexible when necessary.

There are too many  qualities to name that Jose possessed. Whatever the problem, Jose could always be counted on to help. Jose had character, always had a smile on him, and was dependable. He was willing to help no matter the situation, wether it be financially, volunteering to help the brothers in certain community projects, or just listening to a problem.

Jose valued family and his culture. His family, and his love for his culture was a motivator in giving back to his community and wanting to make a difference. Jose lived for his family , friends, and O.D.Phi. More important, Jose displayed the qualities of Unity, Honesty, Integrity, and Leadership.

Several years have passed since succumbing to injuries as a result of a car accident. To this day, not a day goes by that he is not thought of and of the great times we had. His loss created a big void and emptiness in Theta Chapter, but the memories will always remain. July 30, 1995 will be a never forgotten. Jose was a true gentleman, a son, a classmate, a friend, and brother. You are forever missed.

O.D.PHI TILL THE DAY WE DIE!
